This medium size deep fluted bowl gouge was designed after extensive testing and input from master turner John Jordan. It's purpose: fine finishing cuts inside and outside of bowls with some use on spindles. This particular tool comes in a double-ended configuration. This gives you 50% more usable tool, for 30% more cost. With the double ended tool, you have options to how you use the tool:- use a different grind on each end (i.e. two tools in one) or the same grind on each end for Â½ as many trips to the grinder. The choice is yours. The steel used to make all tools in the MASTERCUT line is a CPM M4 HSS - a high-tech particle metal. Making our tools from CPM HSS is what truly sets them above the competition. This powder manufacturing process distributes the carbides uniformly throughout the steel. This process prevents the globular, irregular distribution of carbides and alloys as found in conventional HSS. Advantages of having such uniformity in the steel are: easier to sharpen, performs more consistently, &maintains its edge longer (up to 3 times longer). Note: The carbides in this steel are very fine. This means there are more of them on the cutting edge of the tool at all times compared to lower grade steel.

Here's a very useful lathe accessory that really simplifies bowl turning. This CNC machined solid aluminum vacuum chuck is great for finishing the bottom of your turned bowls and other vessels. How to use this chuck: * Thread the vacuum chuck onto the lathe spindle * Cover the open end of the chuck with the self adhesive rubber gasket included with the chuck. * Using a 3/8" ID plastic tube, connect a good vacuum supply to the 3/8" OD tube that passes through the headstock from the chuck. * Position your turning on the chuck and turn on the vacuum. * Smile because you now have a great way to finish your turnings! Note: A vacuum swivel is not needed with this chuck because the tube inside the chuck is mounted in a bearing so it remains stationary as the chuck rotates. * Threads: 1" - 8 TPI - Other threads available upon request. * Outside diameter: 3½". * Overall length: 4". * Steel tube length: 12". The Spindlemaster is ideal for small projects like boxes and rattles, and works just as effectively on large pieces like bedposts and staircase spindles. If you have reservations about using a skew chisel, the Spindlemaster is the answer.
Taming the skew is perhaps the most common of problems encountered by the woodturner. The digs-ins which ensue from incorrect presentation cause many turners to avoid using the skew chisels and consequently reduce their skills and limit their opportunities of turning between centers. The new Spindlemaster does away with this problem. Its design is flat on one surface, and the oval on the other making dig-ins a thing of the past. It is easy to use for even the least experienced turner. In addition to doing the regular planning job of the skew chisel, the Spindlemaster will also cut both beads and coves with the greatest ease. The Spindlemaster gives a fine finish every time. That is a particular advantage when working on soft woods like pine which normally leave a very coarse finish.
